When we read aloud to our children, we are inadvertently teaching them that reading is fun!  And since we are a pleasure-seeking people, kids will want to do what brings enjoyment and they will do it.  After all, most of us do what our parents did.  (See The Read-Aloud Handbook, by Jim Trelease [2006], p. 4).

Reading to them increases their vocabulary, deepens comprehension, and helps them learn to  focus.  When we read together, it sparks family conversation and gives us a common bond.  Together, we pull for the good guys and decry the bad guys!  And together, as we discuss what we read, we often can see God’s hand in the lives of His children.

What a precious gift we give when we read aloud to our children. May these Christmas stories bless your family.
